above average by Elaine Sun

sarah complains that her new shampoo makes her hair fall out,
makes it stiff and dry like straw
she sits outside directly under the summer sun
 sometimes by an eerily clear
 blue-green swimming pool,
sometimes on a chair on top of grass
tiny beads of sweat form on her neck and chest
 sarah shines
her skin turns from beige to light olive to brown
she doesnt wear sunscreen, thinks about cancer and death
 glances at a cloudless sky
 worries about tan lines
